As the owner of Floating Phantoms, I want to thank each and everyone of you that have shopped at my store, or visited this WEB site.
The story of
Floating Phantoms is Dallas' only independent Halloween store. Because Floating Phantoms is not a franchise, I am not limited to what products I can sell, or services to provide. This freedom makes Floating Phantoms the most unique Halloween store in the Dallas area. I provide only the finest quality adult costumes and home haunting decor. And since I also design and manufacture Halloween products, I have items that cannot be found anywhere else in the country.
I have always had in interest in Halloween - the costumes, the scares, the fun it presents. As a child, I can remember watching classic scary TV shows, such as
One Halloween, I even made my own werewolf costume. It was quite a success, as my Trick-or-Treat bag broke several times from all of the candy I collected. Once I got too old for Trick-or-Treating, a friend and I started decorating his house, making animated props that would scare the children, and even some adults. At that time, however, Halloween was primarily for kids, and as I grew older, my interest began to drop.
and
By the late 1990's, I was working as a software engineer for a national telecommunications company, and Halloween was starting to become an excuse for adults to party. The company I was working for was really into Halloween, and supported having decorating contests between the various departments. In the engineering department there were several employees (including myself) that went all-out in decorating. One year in particular got me started in the Halloween business. We decided to have a Haunted House inside the office, and even invited the employee's children to visit after hours. I found some plans for a floating ghost on the Internet, and built my first version of my floating phantom. Everyone was quite impressed with it, and suggested that I start selling them. With that suggestion, I was off and running. Since my full-sized phantom was too difficult a product to sell to the general public, I built a tabletop version, and sold several of them to fellow employees.
In 2002 I created Floating Phantoms, and attended my first Halloween product tradeshow. My intent was to see if there was a market for my tabletop phantom, but I also brought along my life-sized phantom to attract visitors to my booth. When I arrived at the show, I was stunned to find out that there were over 1000 vendors attending the show! And I was even more surprised to find out that people were interested in my product – not the tabletop version, but the life-sized phantom! After that show, I went back to the drawing board, and developed an easy to set-up version of the large phantom. Over the next couple of years, I sold over 50 life-sized phantoms to various people and companies, including AstroWorld in Houston, and Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. Since then, I have added new products to my lineup, such as graveyard fencing.
In 2006, I began to research the possibility of opening my own Halloween product store. Although the Dallas area is not as involved in Halloween as the rest of the country is, there is a growing number of adults who are enjoying the fun that Halloween has to offer. Seeing that the area was lacking a Halloween store that specialized in unique, adult Halloween products, I decided to open just such a store. For Halloween 2008 Floating Phantoms opened its doors on the corner of Park and Preston, in Plano Texas. Even with very little marketing, and another national franchise making its depute in Dallas that same year, Floating Phantoms had a successful first year of operation.
So that’s the story of how Floating Phantoms got its start. I am looking forward to a bright future as Dallas’ only independent Halloween store. I am committed to providing unique, high-quality products and services for Dallas’ adult Halloween enthusiasts. But to do that, I need to know what you, the customer, wants and needs.
